These are few of the answers to frequent questions in nutrition asked by my clients who are happy to share their questions with you also feel free to ask me about nutrition and I will be able to give you my opinion.
- Should I mix carbohydrates and proteins during my meal?
Realistically it is difficult to continue over a long period of time.
This makes it extremely difficult to eat out.
Based on science, proteins and carbohydrates are digested more efficiently when eaten together.
- Is high fiber good for dieting?
The fiber expands and makes you feel full. Less able to eat fad foods.
Fiber speeds up the passage of food. Very high intake reduces absorption of certain minerals which may lead to deficiency in some groups.
Side effects such as abdominal discomfort may occur.
- If my diet consists of proteins only, will I lose weight?
Followers of protein diet consume fewer calories than normal and lose weight.
Drawbacks:
Lack of energy, headache, bad breath and other symptoms due to low carbohydrates effect on blood glucose.
It can be potential riskdue to excess production of ketones. (By products of partial fat break down) There is excessive strain on liver and kidneys and likely dehydration.
- Will I lose weight if I am on low carbohydrates diet?
If you are on minimum carbohydrates fat stores will be accessed more readily.
This diet can raise serum uric acids levels and lower potassium levels that can facilitate cardiac arrhythmia may cause acidosis, aggravate renal problems due to extra solute burden on the kidneys. Also elevate blood lipid levels-increasing CHD risk. At most the amount of calories lost in urine is total 100-150 kcal. This amount results to a small weight loss of 0.45 kg per month.
Q5. I use a metabolism increasingdiets, should I continue using them it?
Stimulating Chinese herbs, acidic substances or drugs aim to increase metabolism. This will have the effect of burning off burning calories.
If calories burned exceed those ingested weight loss willresult.
Other foods are difficult toeat for long for example grapefruit.
The pills and drugs may have severe side effects on the cardiac-respiratory system. In some cases, this may result in death.
- I am obese and going for an operation in three months. What should I do?
The best is caloric restriction which will have a negative energy balance achieved quickly and maintained. This will require obesity level at 40-50% and above. I would also advice a medical supervision in all cases.
Draw backs of this method
Large loss of muscle tissue that cannot be returned.(Leaving greater percentage of fat than before) It is best to watch out on lean tissues loss in critical organ like the heart ,poor success rate in weight loss, ketogenic and nutrients often lacking.
- I am going to Diet for a short period of time than go back to my normal eating habits is that okay?
This will have an effect on your metabolism rate and fat stores. The decrease can often be greater than the decrease attributable to lean body mass loss.
This will have an effect on your metabolic rate and fat stores .The decrease can often be greater than the decrease
Diets may go into depression if the diet is not working due to the temporary effects of caloric intake. Weight gain tend to occur quicker with repeated cycles and fat may be replaced at a rapid rate.
Research has suggested that when obese people lose body mass, their fat cells increase the level of lipoprotein. Lipase the enzymes that facilitate fat synthesis and storage which makes it easier for the people to gain weight.
Conclusion
As a Fitness Coach, I believe that the real reason people put on weight is a positive energy balance. Though other facts may come into play but the balance of in and out matters a lot. Behaviors in deciding how much to eat is much more important that the physiological influences.
Please post your dietary questions and I will be able to answer them as detailed as possible.
